20 May: Miniature Underwater Gliders with Autonomous Deployment and Recovery Capabilities

Marine robotic systems such as Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and underwater gliders, are revolutionizing the way we obtain data from the Ocean. However, the majority of existing ocean observing systems still rely on manned support vessels for launch, recovery, and battery charging. There is still an urgent need in improving the amount of data available, increasing spatial and temporal diversity, which can only be met with the development of innovative solutions that are autonomous and scalable by nature. Alex Alcocer will talk about the OASYS research project which is developing a proof of concept for a swarm of low cost Miniature Underwater Gliders.
